Hong Kong protests and tourism: Modelling tourist trust on revisit intention

Drawing on prospect theory (the subgroup of behavioural economics) and information integration theory, this study proposes empirically tests a research model exploring the influence tourist trust tourists’ revisit intention through mediating effect attitudes in Hong Kong (HK) protest context. A series protests commenced 3 April 2019 against Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement have severely impacted HK tourism industry as destination may deem to be unsafe by tourists revisit. This is important because happened at least 10 per month from December 2019, which brought an adverse impact industry. Using survey method, we collected 176 data those who had prior experience visiting HK, were analysed using partial squares structural equation modelling. Overall, findings demonstrate that mediate intention, but no direct ascribe hazard protests. Recognizing greater uncertainty arises following reports media prominently inform decision-making, how self-perceived influences hazards offers intriguing managerial practical implications for managers policymakers. Besides, theoretical directions future are presented.
